Hudson County officials and entities have been distributing turkeys to families in need for Thanksgiving since last weekend in hopes that everyone has a happy, healthy holiday.

Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis, along with City Hall volunteers, worked with St. Henry’s Church as part of his annual turkey giveaway, while North Bergen residents were invited to Mayor Nick Sacco’s annual NB C.A.R.E.S. Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway yesterday at the North Bergen Recreation Center. One turkey per household was given out.

Sacco, also the state senator of the 32nd legislative district, was joined by Commissioners Julio Marenco, Hugo Cabrera, Allen Pascual, Frank Gargiulo, and others gave out over 3,000 turkeys, pernil, and bags of trimmings to residents, a Facebook post said.

“Every year the operation gets bigger, but it’s always a huge success,” Sacco wrote.

The Nicholas J. Sacco Foundation also presented checks to six local churches to support their food pantries and holiday needs and tomorrow they will deliver fully prepared individual meals to about 1,000 homebound seniors.

And of course it’s not the holiday season until state Senator (D-33)/ Union City Mayor Brian Stack begins handing out the Thanksgiving main course, an effort he began on Saturday morning and estimates to have donated 30,000 foul already.

“Anyone who needs a turkey, we’ll do our best to get it to you. Supplies, of course, are limited,” he said in a Facebook live video, noting that hundreds of volunteers helping them distribute.

Furthermore, Assemblywoman Angela McKnight (D-32) is giving out turkeys at the AngelaCARES pantry today at 2 p.m., as well as hosting Thanksgiving meals for seniors at New Jersey City University tomorrow a between 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Her running mate, Assemblyman-elect Will Sampson, will be handing out turkeys in the Peninsula City this afternoon and Ward D Councilman Yousef Saleh gave out some signatures Thanksgiving main courses this weekend.

Additionally, SUEZ Water North Jersey, Shauger, HOPES CAP, Inc., Hudson Pro Orthopedics, and Hudson County Commissioner Anthony Romano (D-5) helped the Hoboken Police Department, Hoboken Fire Department, and Hoboken OEM give turkeys to housing authority residents earlier today.

In an instance where non-electeds came together, Jersey City businessman Bruce Alston partnered with non-profit group She Is a CEO and Liberty State Park 4 All to give out 1,000 turkeys to residents at Carolyn’s restaurant yesterday.
