Hudson County jury convicts Jersey City man of 2019 murder, weapons charges

A Hudson County jury convicted a Jersey City man of a 2019 murder and related weapons charges yesterday, officials said.

Darius Bolden, 36, of Jersey City, was found guilty of murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon, County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.

The verdict was delivered before Hudson County Superior Court Judge Mitzy Galis Menendez following a two-week trial.

On Tuesday, August 27th, 2019, at approximately 11:45 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 169 Fulton Ave.

Responding officers found an unresponsive man, later identified as Jason Dunbar, 35, of Jersey City, with multiple apparent gunshot wounds.

Dunbar was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center and pronounced dead at approximately 12:30 a.m. the following day.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be multiple gunshot wounds and manner of death to be homicide.

Bolden was charged with the fatal shooting back in October 2019, while Yasmin Tejeda was charged with hindering.

His sentencing is scheduled for Friday, August 12th. The State is represented in this case by Assistant Prosecutor David Feldman and Assistant Prosecutor Nicole Ghezzar.
