The Hudson County GOP is endorsing Hoboken Zoning Board Chair Steve Firestone for city council at-large in tomorrow’s non-partisan runoff election.

“Firestone is an advocate for responsible government, an experienced public servant, and a dedicated member of the community,” Hudson County GOP Chair Jose Arango said in a statement.
“Steve has the full endorsement and backing of the Hudson County Republican Party and Republicans across Hoboken. Others may try and sound fiscally responsible, but Steve Firestone is the only actual Republican in the race.”
Firestone, who had previously been endorsed by Arango and Hudson County Republican Vice Chairman for Communications Joshua Sotomayor Einstein, is now officially the candidate supported by the entire organization, which isn’t particularly surprising since he’s the only registered Republican in the six-person race.
That includes Hudson County Republican Vice Chair Joe Branco, the immediate previous Hoboken Municipal Republican Party chair.
“Firestone has never chased the limelight and has always been about working for the town’s betterment,” Branco added.
“For over 6 years Steve served Hoboken on Zoning Board and argued for adopting a municipal development master plan to help everyone – just as importantly, we Republicans need to have a commonsense voice on the council and Firestone is the man for the job.”
Firestone is on Councilwoman at-Large Emily Jabbour’s slate along with Councilman at-Large Joe Quintero and Caitlin Lawson.
Jabbour’s campaign and super PACs supporting her mayoral run against 3rd Ward Councilman Mike Russo have attacked him for accepting donations and endorsements from MAGA Republicans.
In an interview last week, Firestone said he doesn’t support Trump and/or the MAGA movement.
“I want to make sure that taxes are kept low, I want to look after every single dollar that people have and that they contribute as part of revenue to the city. So those are the main things that are important with me,” he said at the time.
“Do I agree with the party on social issues? Very infrequently, but I still have that fiscal conservatism and I want to make sure I contribute that as part of a solution to our budget problems.”
The runoff race for Hoboken council at-large also features Liz Urtecho, Nicole Magaña, and Pete Keeling running on Russo’s ticket.

It’s be great to see a Republican in the mix for Council. It’s always good to see a fiscal conservative looking out for the taxpayers!
Go Steve Fireman!!
VOTE for Steve Firestone & his Council at Large slate PLUS Emily Jabbour for Hoboken mayor!
Wait, Steve is MAGA, and he donated to this slate?
