Hudson County arson task force probing Jersey City fire that left man, 64, in critical condition

The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force is probing a Jersey City fire that left a 64-year-old man in critical condition last night.

Yesterday at approximately 9:30 p.m., the Jersey City Fire Department was notified of an alarm activation at the Berry Gardens Apartments located at 92 Danforth Ave., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.

First responders to the area found an active fire located in Apartment 206 and began fire suppression activities.

An unresponsive man, 64, was found in his apartment. The victim was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment. He remains at JCMC and is currently in critical condition.

A preliminary investigation by the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force has determined that the fire began in Apartment 206 and the fire was contained to this apartment. The investigation into the origin and cause of the fire is pending.

Agencies responding to the fire were the Jersey City Fire Department, the Jersey City Police Department, and the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force.

The Regional Arson Task Force is actively investigating this incident with assistance from the Jersey City Fire Department.
