“Compassionate, tenacious, and genuine. That’s the Rafi Cordova I know, the person I consider a dear friend, and the person who I trust will represent the 1st Ward on Hoboken’s City Council for the next four years,” Quintero said in a statement.

” … For the past 20 years Rafi has done his work with a focus on helping people and getting results, not on recognition. Rafi hasn’t spent his time posting gimmicky social media content daily to increase followers … no, he’s worked directly with community non-profits to make sure people in need are fed. Rafi hasn’t peddled Trump-like merchandise through a foundation more focused on self-promotion than helping people … no, he’s cared for seniors (doctor visits, housing issues, advocacy) because it’s the right thing to do.”

The words of support should come as no surprise to political observers of the Mile Square City: Mayor Ravi Bhalla endorsed Cordova when he announced his candidacy in May.

He was also a regular presence on the campaign trail with Quintero when he ran on the mayor’s ticket in 2021.

Cordova, the chair of the city’s rent leveling and stabilization board, is looking to fill an open seat with 1st Ward Councilman Mike DeFusco not seeking a third term.

The race has the possibility of entering a December runoff with administration critic Paul Presinzano, who drew the ire of Quintero, and former Health and Human Services Director Leo Pellegrini also running in the non-partisan November 7th downtown council contest.

  1. Isn’t Rafi endorsed by the Mayor who faked a hate crime and blamed it on our only gay legislator. Rafi clearly shows no solidarity to the LGBTQ community, and of course is backed by literal nobody Joe Q who spends too much time fighting the Trump boogeyman in his head. I wouldn’t trust him as my lawyer if he can’t handle basic competency.

    • He’s LGBTQ?
      Who knew and who cares?
Considering how one of his supporters is setting herself on fire for him, I would have sworn they were a couple

  2. So one of the Mayors Yes People is endorsing another Wanna Be Lackey? Seems pretty unsurprising. I really hope people come out to vote for independent voices on the City Council. This administration steam rolls dissenting voices with its slim majority. Imagine what would happen with a veto proof majority!

  3. Yet another “Ravi puppet”. I was at one of the debates and heard all about Rafi’s Yale degree and his ability to speak five languages, but really, what has he done? And what has Joe Q done, other that support all Ravi’s initiatives. We need some independent voices on the City Council, not more rubber stamps who are supported by donations from developers. Hoboken can do better. Vote for Paul on Nov 7.

  4. Yale disappointment and Bhalla Puppet endorsed by a fellow Bhalla Puppet.
Our only hope for Hoboken is if this guy loses big and Bhalla doesn’t get his 6th vote
