The resolution states “we urge Senators Menendez and Booker, Congressman Menendez, Governor Murphy, New Jersey State legislative delegates for LD-32, and LD-33, Hudson County Executive and Commissioners, Mayors and Councilmembers of Union City, Jersey City, North Bergen and West New York, to support Hoboken University Medical Center.”

The local legislation also called for additional FEMA funding as the healthcare group, which also owns the Bayonne Medical Center and Christ Hospital in Jersey City, faces significant financial woes, being sued by vendors for $4.7 million for non-payment.

According to CarePoint, the HUMC admitted more than 6,700 patients with COVID-19, tested more than 115,000, and vaccinated more than 70,000 patients during the pandemic.

“Thank you to the Hoboken City Council for their unwavering support for CarePoint Health and the thousands of underserved and underinsured patients that we take into our facilities,” CarePoint Health Vice President of Marketing and Patient Experience Justin Drew said in a statement.

“The uncertainty of our financial situation is indeed dire and we hope today’s resolution as well as the outpouring of support we are seeing from residents throughout Hudson County to plead will be taken seriously.”

On Tuesday, CarePoint launched a Change.org petition, indicating that they will need $130 million in state funding to operate “at an optimal pace” after receiving $10 million in American Rescue Plan funds last Friday.
