Hoboken Council President Jim Doyle is endorsing Councilwoman-at-Large Emily Jabbour, as well as her three running mates for city council-at-large.

“Emily clearly has the highest commitment among the field to our residents – or ‘perspiration’ – as demonstrated in her seemingly inexhaustible efforts to serve, respond, and represent constituents’ needs,” Doyle said in a statement.
“But her efforts are also guided by a competence – or ‘inspiration’ – that transcends her countless actions to help residents with daily challenges to focus effectively on broader needs in our City as a whole. Those include food and housing insecurity and public and transportation safety.”
Doyle’s endorsement isn’t exactly earth shattering, as he’s served as both a political mentor and friend to Jabbour on the council. They also ran together on Mayor Ravi Bhalla’s council slate, along with Quintero, in 2021.
Nonetheless, Jabbour is the only mayoral candidate would two of her colleagues backing her, the other being 5th Ward Councilman Phil Cohen – who was supported by Bhalla in 2019 and 2023 and he returned the favor by backing him for Congress and state Assembly.
The incumbent mayor opted to run for state office instead of seeking a third term and now Jabbour is in a six-person, non-partisan contest to succeed him on November 4th. He’s now a Democratic nominee for Assembly in the 32nd Legislative District.
Additionally, the council-at-large race has a whopping 15 candidates for three open seats.
” … A Mayor Jabbour will need help and cooperation from a fair and reasonable City Council. Joe Quintero, on her slate, is an incumbent who shares her commitments, someone who has experience, shown up, worked hard, and partnered with Emily on policies like tenant protections and affordable housing,” Doyle added.
“And with the rest of Emily’s Council-at-Large slate’s combined dedication to our City, whether Steve Firestone’s experience serving on and now leading the Zoning Board as its chair or Caitlin Layson’s service and fresh perspective as a special education teacher, their addition to the Council will bring a balance of perspectives for Hoboken moving forward.”

Not only is this endorsement unsurprising, it may not bring any additional votes to what she already has. Sort of what this guy represents, the disfunctional status quo that is costing us millions.
That is not what Jabbour’s letter recommended in 2020, and not her position in 2025.
Welp, this seals the deal for me! I was holding out until a federal government Bhalla boy endorsed a candidate. Now I’m definitely voting for Mike DeFusco.
