Hoboken Council President Jim Doyle and Vice President Phil Cohen are endorsing Mayor Ravi Bhalla and Jersey City activist Katie Brennan for Assembly in the 32nd Legislative District.

“Ravi Bhalla and Katie Brennan will do the people’s work in Trenton—not that of the party bosses. I know first-hand that Ravi is an effective, innovative leader. As mayor of Hoboken, he has led the city in the ongoing fight to curb the impact of climate change, to protect our rent control laws, to expand affordable housing, and to make the city a safer place to walk, bike, and drive,” Doyle said in a statement.
“Katie Brennan brings the housing expertise, new energy, and independence we need in the state Assembly. Together, Ravi and Katie will work for more affordable housing, to accelerate our transition towards clean, non-carbon producing energy, and to stand up to Donald Trump.”
Bhalla and Brennan are running together in a six-person, three-slate race in the June 10th Democratic primary. Assemblywoman Jessica Ramirez and Ward D Councilman Yousef Saleh are running on Mayor Steven Fulop’s ticket as part of his pursuit for governor.
Additionally, Hoboken Public Library Executive Director Jennie Pu and Jersey City Director of Buildings and Street Maintenance Crystal Fonseca are running with the endorsement of the Hudson County Democratic Organization.
“Ravi Bhalla and Katie Brennan bring the proven, independent leadership we need at the Statehouse,” Cohen added.
“Ravi and Katie will be effective and tireless advocates for Jersey City and Hoboken in the state Assembly, making sure we receive our fair share of state funding. I proudly endorse them and look forward to campaigning on their behalf between now and the June 10 Democratic Primary.”
Brennan and Bhalla were of course happy to accept the support.
“I’m honored that we have the support of Council President Doyle and Vice President Cohen. They have been incredible partners during my time as mayor, and I look forward to continuing our work together to address Hoboken’s needs at the state level,” said Bhalla.
“Council President Doyle and Vice President Cohen have deep connections to the Hoboken community from their years of public service. I’m excited to work alongside them to engage residents in tackling the housing crisis, improving public transit, and making sure our communities get what they need from Trenton,” added Brennan.
LD-32 Assembly endorsements from Hoboken City Council members will likely be tough to come by going forward with 2nd Ward Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher, 3rd Ward Councilman Mike Russo, 4th Ward Councilman Ruben Ramos, and Councilwoman-at-Large Emily Jabbour all running for mayor.
Neither of them is running for office in the fall — does that tell us something? What about Emily and Joe — all in for the Mayor? Would love to know that before June…..
Who could have seen that endorsement coming.
It is not like Bhalla paid for their political campaigns for last decade..
The 32nd needs and deserves Hispanic representation.
It does. Her name is Jessica Ramirez and she should be reelected to continue delivering for 32nd District.
not a peep out of Ramirez during her time in until she started courting our votes.
