“Making electric vehicle charging stations available to residents is a key action item in our Climate Action Plan to ensure we help mitigate greenhouse gas emissions,” Mayor Ravi Bhalla said in a statement.

“It is critical that we do all we can to ensure that our community is resilient and sustainable for generations to come. I look forward to additional stations coming online so that all residents can have access to this crucial infrastructure.”

The city’s Climate Action Plan seeks to have net-zero energy by 2030 and carbon neutral by 2050.

Two DC fast chargers are available at the Monroe Arts Center on the west side of Monroe Street between Seventh and Eighth Street.

They offer charging speeds of 50 kW, which can charge a vehicle’s battery from 20 percent to 80 percent in about an hour or less. The fee is $0.49 per kWh while charging and $0.50 per minute while the vehicle is plugged in but no longer charging.

Two “level 2” charging stations are available at Columbus Park on the south side of 10th Street between Clinton and Grand Streets.

These charging stations can add about 20 to 25 miles of range per hour, and they will be free of charge for a 6-month period until April 30th, 2024.

The new EV charging stations, installed at no cost to the city, are the first of 25 new stations which, when combined with the 11 level 2 charging stations the city previously installed, will ensure residents throughout the city are within a 5-minute walk of a public charging station by 2030.
