The Regional Medial Examiner ruled the death of Benjamin Stone, 40, a homicide and determined the cause of death to be multiple blunt force trauma to the torso, Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.

On Tuesday, April 27th, just after 1:30 a.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded on a welfare check to an apartment at 44 Storms Ave., between Howard Place and Monticello Avenue.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case and no arrests have been made at this time.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office at 201-915-1345 or to leave an anonymous tip at: http://www.hudsoncountyprosecutorsofficenj.org/homicide-tip/.

“Benjamin Stone is our beautiful friend. He is a wonderful person– a truly caring, hilarious, intelligent, talented, and above all– a great friend who was loved by so many. His life was taken abruptly early Tues morning on April 27,” the page description says.

“Detectives have ruled his death as homicide. We are greatly devastated by this event which is beyond tragic. We’ve set up a gofundme to give all proceeds to his mother for any financial responsibilities, ie. funeral costs, lawyers, that would be involved with this heartbreaking situation. If you can, please click on the link to donate. Thank you for your love and support.”
