“From the day the Democratic county committee members elected me as their new leader, Chairman John Currie has been an incredible mentor and his guidance helped our team hit the ground running this Fall as we worked to re-elect Senator Menendez,” DeGise said in a statement.

“I agree wholeheartedly with Governor Murphy that there is no one better equipped to lead our party than Chairman Currie, and the evidence is easy to see — from the investments NJDSC has made in county parties under his direction to the tremendous victories we won together in November throughout the state.”

Murphy endorsed Currie yesterday, before he formally announced he’d be seeking another term in 2020.

While this would normally be unusual timing for a race that is two years away, Essex County Democratic Committee Chair LeRoy Jones has put his name in the mix and has already receive the backing of about a dozen elected leaders in Essex – including County Executive Joe DiVincenzo.
