Guttenberg BOE slate backed by Mayor Zitt pulls off clean sweep at the polls

“Working Together,” the Guttenberg Board of Education slate backed by Mayor Wayne Zitt, pulled off a clean sweep last night, winning decisively by a margin of about 2-to-1.

Incumbents Marisol Montanez, Mark Rogers, Nicole Fundora, Rebecca Acosta and Jean Sosnowksi were all re-elected, staving off a challenge from the “For the Kids” team.

“Our team would like to thank the voters for placing their confidence in us. Special thank you to Mayor Wayne D. Zitt, Jr., Town Council and all our wonderful volunteers for your support and dedication! We will not let you down,” Working Together wrote on their Facebook page last night.

According to tallies to the Hudson County Clerk’s Office, Montanez was the top vote getter with 727, with Fundora and Rogers not far behind her with tallies of 698 and 631, respectively. They were all elected to three-year terms.

Johnny Restrepo received the most votes for the other team, with 374.

Acosta and Sosnowksi also both cruised, winning by at least 10 percent of the vote. both trustee was elected to two more years on the board.

The victory bodes well for Zitt, who is up for re-election in 2021 and now maintains clear cut control of the BOE.
