“Nothing in the world mattered more to Anthony than his family, and this collection will ensure AJ, Johnny, Christian and Savannah are taken care of for the future,” Matthew Martino wrote in the GoFundMe page description.

Due to the enormous amount of inquiries from a wide variety of people, teams and organizations that Anthony touched, the Varvaro family has requested one central donation location. If you wish to donate to the Varvaro family, please do so here.”

The effort has seen an early groundswell of support, receiving 484 donations for $79,405 towards their $4 million goal as of 3:12 p.m.

A married father of four, Varvaro played for the MLB between 2010 and 2015, with his longest tenure with the Atlanta Braves for four seasons.

Port Authority police have said that the double fatal crash occurred at the Newark Bay-Hudson County New Jersey Turnpike Extension at 4:25 a.m. yesterday, caused by Henry Plazas, 30, of Bridgewater, traveling on the wrong side of the road. He also died in the crash.
