“Please avoid #CentralAve between Charles & Griffith Street which is temporarily shutdown due 2 ongoing fire on Bowers St. near Central,” the Central Avenue SID tweeted about a half hour ago.
“Big thanks 2 all the brave #JerseyCity emergency responders for addressing the situation. Battling a fire in this heat is unthinkable. #StaySafe”
The Jersey City Fire Department is on the scene battling the blaze in temperatures that feel like the mid-90s due to the high humidity.
In an email, city spokeswoman Kim Wallace-Scalcione said the fire started in the walls of a multi-family residential building, which was under control by 2:52 p.m.
Only one apartment was evacuated, with no one sustaining any injuries and even pets being removed from the building safely, she stated.
