ELEC: O’Dea banks $207k in Q3 for Jersey City mayoral race, $845k COH

Hudson County Commissioner Bill O’Dea (D-2) raised $207,415 in the third quarter of this year as the Jersey City mayoral race draws near, also showing $845,203.21 cash on hand, according to campaign finance reports.

O’Dea raised $29,740, spent $318,644.81, and has $314,927.01 cash on hand in his individual account, based on his October 6th report filed with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission (NJ ELEC).

IBEW Local Union 164’s PAC gave $17,300, Rutherford-based Patrick McGowan, of McGowan Construction, gave $5,000, Hispanic American Commerce Association (HACA) of Jersey City President donated $4,650, and AFSCME contributed $2,500, the report says.

On the expense side, O’Dea paid Secaucus-based Vision Media $277,327.14 for consulting for fundraising, direct mail printing and mailing, as well as media services. Additionally, Guttenberg’s Great Society Strategies was paid $21,295.58 for political consulting.

The majority of the Q3 donations went to O’Dea’s nine-person city council slate, raising $177,675, spending $85,517.61, and $389,489.65 cash on hand, their October 6th ELEC report details.

His commissioner account, which didn’t require a Q3 filing as of yet, also has an additional $265,138.10 cash on hand as of July 14th.

Jersey City’s Atrimec Realty Corp wrote a check for $25,000, Plainfield-based Business for Better Neighborhoods donated $15,000, Florio Kenny Reval LLP Senior Partner Ed Florio gave $5,000, ad did Hudson County Clerk E. Junior Maldonado – a co-campaign chair – and Elizabeth Mayor Chris Bollwage contributed $2,600.

Lodi-based JMP Holdings President Joseph Marino donated $10,000, the Pipefitters Local Union 274 PAC contributed $5,750, William Guarini Plumbing Project Manager Matthew LeFurge gave $5,000, and the Jersey City Fire Officers Association got involved at $3,750.

Other notable donors include UA Plumbers Local 24 PAC ($25,200), Belleville’s Power Electric Company Inc. ($7,500), Cranford’s Rac Landscaping Co Inc. ($5,000), and Hudson County Register Jeff Dublin – the other co-campaign chair ($3,000).

The team also spent $14,649 on Jersey City’s On Time Graphics for campaign mail, banners, and house signs, while another Jersey City business, Takeoverprint.com, was paid $5,778.01 for house and lawn signs.

Jim McGreevey remains the top fundraiser with the most cash on hand in the non-partisan November 4th mayoral race, followed by Ward E Councilman James Solomon, both as HCV first reported.
