Former Jersey City Board of Education President Mussab Ali raised $72,016 in the first quarter of this year, spent $41212.61, and has $199,976.01 cash on hand for his mayoral run, according to his most recent campaign finance reports.

Ali did the vas majority of the fundraising himself, raising $62,816, spending $41,197.12, and $190,791.50 cash on hand, based on his April 15th report filed with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission (NJ ELEC).
Nearly all of his donors contributed $1,000, with a few exceptions being Mariam Kandil, who gave $5,200 – as did both Idris Mokhtarzada and Ahnaf Siddiqui – and Asad Jamal, who wrote a check for $5,000.
His largest expenditure was the Washington, D.C.-based 4431 Consulting, who was paid $12,736.56, he also paid a total of $11,542.50 on rent, utilities, cable, and internet for his campaign office in Journal Square, for January, February, and March.
Ali also paid Preston for Pennsylvania $3,000 for fundraising consulting.
The team account, which filed an ELEC report on the same day, received most of their funding from Ward C council candidate Shabab Khan, who chipped in $5,000. As a whole, they raised $9,200 and spent just $15.49.
Ali is running in a five-person race with former Gov. Jim McGreevey, Ward E Councilman James Solomon, Hudson County Commissioner Bill O’Dea (D-2), and Council President Joyce Watterman.
McGreevey remains the top fundraiser by far, with Solomon and O’Dea near and above the $1 million cash on hand mark, all as HCV first reported.
For the time being, Ali only has more cash on hand than Watterman.
The non-partisan Jersey City municipal elections are on November 4th.
