At approximately 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, laborers from a demolition team discovered a deceased man on the second floor of a residence that was being demolished, city spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said in an email.
The structure, located at 10 Irving St., had not been occupied since suffering heavy damage in a fire in August of 2021.
Upon discovery of the body, demolition ceased immediately and members of the Jersey City Fire Department used their equipment to safely gain access to the structure and to remove the body, Wallace-Scalcione noted.
As of this writing, officials said the cause of death did not appear suspicious.
