UPDATED: County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit investigating ‘suspicious death’ in Jersey City

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit is investigating “a suspicious death” in Jersey City this morning, the law enforcement agency posted on social media.

“The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit is investigating a suspicious death on Storms Avenue between Howard Place and Monticello Avenue in Jersey City. More info to follow,” they tweeted at 7:14 a.m.

At 4:23 p.m., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez released more information.

This morning just after 1:30 a.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department
responded on a welfare check to an apartment at 44 Storms Ave., between Howard Place and Monticello Avenue, Suarez said in a statement.

Responding officers found a lifeless 40-year-old man, later identified as Benjamin Stone, who was pronounced dead at 2:01 a.m.

The death is considered suspicious at this time because of injuries noticed on the body. The final determination of cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case. No arrests have been made at this time.
