“My plan is simple. We will work with ferry operators to keep fares at $5 for Hoboken commuters, without the chaos of cross-honoring,” Ramos said in a statement.

“By increasing ridership, we can run more frequent service, improve efficiency, and lower costs for everyone. The PATH is not getting any better, and the Port Authority is not fixing it anytime soon, so we need to take local action to make commuting better and more affordable.”

The mayoral hopeful noted that when the Hoboken PATH service shut down, New York Waterway offered $5 discounted ferry fares to ensure residents could still get to work.

The response was immediate, and ridership surged, proving that cost is a major barrier to ferry use, Ramos added.

Under his proposal, the city would partner with ferry operators such as NY Waterway to provide financial support that offsets costs for Hoboken residents.

By encouraging more commuters to take the ferry, operators could expand schedules and make service more dependable year-round.

“Five Dollar Ferries will change the game for Hoboken,” Ramos concluded.

“We are talking about making a great commuting option accessible to more people, improving quality of life, and reducing strain on the PATH, all while supporting a cleaner, faster way to get to New York.”

  1. Ruben is trying to catch the Zohran tax the rich free stuff for everyone else magic. He’ll probably offer to give out free puppies to Hoboken families next.

  2. This guy is so clueless.
“I’m gonna take your tax dollars and give them to a private company, but I won’t raise taxes to do it.”

He is literally inept across the board

  3. One visit to russocorruption.com and you’ll see where Russo benefited from a alleged $5 a tow parking authority scandal

  4. Ruben like so many of our “electeds,” has not spent much time working for organizations required to have revenues exceed expenses. Let’s fix the broken/expensive transportation models the government already operates before meddling with private models that work pretty well.

  5. You are a politically irrelevant minority in Hudson County and you will remain so until the heat death of the universe. Your opinions are unpopular. Your politicians are unpopular. Meanwhile, the people will continue electing people who want the government to provide useful and necessary services to people of all socioeconomic backgrounds.

      • President Trump was reelected because candidate Harris failed to enunciate any real change from the Neo-Liberal Orthodoxy demonstrated by the failed Biden Administration.
Not that Biden didn’t try, but the chickenhearted Democrats nationwide who wouldn’t adopt needed policies to fight inequality undermined him.
Worse, Biden became the foremost apologist for the funding of the ongoing warcrimes in Gaza.

Had Kamala Harris promised to tax the wealthy to keep Social Security solvent and pledged to on her 1st day in office there would be no more bombs shipped to Israel she would have beaten Trump had she said nothing else.

        • Kamala Harris lost because she was terrible choice by the leaders of the Democratic Party.to be their standard bearer With one a billon and a half dollars in campaign funding and most of media promoting her the she lost in a historic humiliating defete dragging them all down with her.

The Democratic Party’s hubris defeated them and they may never recover.

  6. A 60% REDUCTION IN THE TICKET PRICE? AND HE WANTS HOBOKEN TAXPAYERS TO PAY FOR THIS? IS HE SMOKING CRACK? IF 2000 RIDERS PER DAY X $6 DOLLAR DISCOUNT EQUATES TO 12,000 PER DAY X 200 BUSINESS DAYS. 2,400,000 DOLLARS THAT TAXPAYERS WOULD PAY. THIS GUY HAS ZERO COMMON SENSE AND EVEN LESS FINANCIAL SENSE.

His father the former disgraced mayor of Hoboken Tony Russo plead guilty to multiple felonies sentenced to prison and fined over a hundred thousand dollars.
Somehow those fines have allegedly gone unpaid while his expensive shore was exempt.
