“The Committee to Protect Health Care is thrilled to endorse these health care champions, particularly at this critical juncture for our nation’s health and history. The current Congress has made unprecedented cuts to Medicaid and allowed ACA tax credits to expire, effectively ripping away health care from millions of Americans and threatening more rural hospital closures,” Committee to Protect Health Care Executive Director Dr. Rob Davidson said in a statement.
“The Trump administration continues to dismantle public health. Anti-abortion extremists continue to chip away at abortion access, pharmaceutical corporations continue to price gouge, and hospital consolidation raises costs for patients even further. It’s time for a Congress that stands up for patients, not profits, and stands up against egregious attacks on health care access. These endorsed candidates will be part of that Congress, and we look forward to working with them.”
The group said the House and Senate candidates they are supporting have all tried to establish a pathway to universal health coverage, attempted to restoring nationwide protections for abortion access, and defended Medicare’s drug price negotiation authority.
Further, they are all addressing health care consolidation and supporting solutions to lower patients’ costs, as well as stopping political interference in public health decision-making and restoring hospitals’ and medical facilities’ designation as sensitive spaces.
The other candidates endorsed by Committee to Protect Health Care today are U.S. Senator Graham Platner (D-ME), Reps. Chris Pappas (D-NH, Senate candidate), Joe Courtney (CT-02), Jahana Hayes (CT-05), Sarah Elfreth (MD-03), Chellie Pingree (ME-1), Grace Meng (NY-06), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), George Latimer (NY-16), Pat Ryan (NY-18), Josh Riley (NY-19), and congressional candidate Dan Schwartz (MD-01).
The Democratic primary elections for the House midterms are on June 2nd, where Menendez is being challenged by former Jersey City Board of Education President Mussab Ali.
