Booker: Going through Hudson County is the only way to win elections

U.S. Sen. Cory Booker delivered a powerful speech on behalf of U.S. Rep. Albio Sires (D-8) at his Liberty House fundraiser in Jersey City last night. Sires seeks re-election on November 4 when he runs against a massive underdog in Republican Jude Anthony Tiscornia.

“It’s just great to be here in Hudson County,” Booker began.

“This is a county, in my last election, turned it out in amazing plurality for me. I stand here to let you know, that I’ve learned a long time [ago] – I’m from Essex County – but the only route I know from getting from Newark, to Washington D.C., you gotta go through Hudson,” which earned a loud round of applause from the crowd.

“Albio gets up every morning, has a routine. Before he puts on his suit, before he attaches that pin, he stands before the mirror and just recommits himself. He says ‘I’ll be for Jersey. I’ll be for labor. I’ll be for children. I’ll be for seniors. AL-BI-O!”

“And I want you to know, come hell or high water, I’ll always be for him,” Booker added in a serious tone. “He is one of the most exceptional congresspeople down there.”

“I’m here today because I have a friend, I have a mentor, I have an example and I have inspiration in Albio Sires,” Booker concluded.
