Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla, a Democratic candidate for Congress in the 8th District, is backing the Medicare for All policy, also hoping to lower the eligibility age and include dental care.

“Too many of our residents cannot afford their health care premiums and deductibles or are uninsured in the first place,” Bhalla said in a statement.

“In Congress, I will be a strong advocate for Medicare for All. We must provide all Americans with high-quality, affordable health care, regardless of their income.”

In addition to the aforementioned potential addendums, Bhalla mentioned working to expand the list of drugs to which Medicare can negotiate prices, which will drive down the costs of prescription medication.

He has previously proposed strengthening surprise medical billing protections, streamlining the appeals process, upping the penalties, and providing for public education to ensure that consumers do not keep getting hit with expensive out of network charges.

Bhalla has expressed support for Medicare for All several times during the course of the campaign, most recently at a Jersey City Heights candidate forum on Monday evening, with the June 4th primary right around the corner.

The Mile Square City mayor and first time candidate Kyle Jasey said they would support the bill in its current form, while U.S. Rep. Rob Menendez (D-8) suggested it needs some fine tuning first.

Republican candidate Anthony Valdes said he wouldn’t support the bill since it would cost approximately $4 trillion annually.

  1. Too late for more giveaways with trillions added in debt now every few month another trillion piles on.

Joe Bribem just illegally erased well over 100 billion in student loans even after the Supreme Court earlier deemed such actions illegal.

The country is headed for disaster and most corporate media says not much of anything other than to deny and keep the scam going.

Then there’s Hamas Ravi who will say and do anything.

  2. Hoboken has yet to receive its allotment of migrants although Ravi Bhalla announced it as a “Sanctuary City,” as his first order of business upon becoming mayor. We are working to make sure that promise happens since Hoboken has ample open space and underutilized residential equity.

Congressman Ravi Bhalla will ensure that our migrants are provided adequate shelter and medical care with MediCare for All.

  3. Ravi’s internal poll numbers can’t be very good – he keeps dipping into the Progressive Playbook and trotting out programs as though they just hit his screen this morning. Every Democrat in Washington has spoken about this at one time or another… What makes this different- and how do we pay for it? Numbers have never been his strength.

  4. Yes he repeats every dem platform but can’t be bothered to lead Hoboken. Still haven’t announced a single new summer rec program but sure have a lot of new hires. He’s checked out. Good riddance I guess, hope it was worth selling your soul!

  5. To Samantha Eckstein,
Do your research as to why we are trillions in the red. While LBJ, with his guns and butter programs did start kicking the debt can down the road, the biggest culprits are Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, and Donald Trump. They significantly lowered tax rates for the wealthy without commensurate decreased in spending. Joe Biden bribed no one. You bought into the false argument by Reagan that the problem was not greedy corporations and their parasitic stockholders, but ‘welfare queens.’ He convinced you to be obsessively angry with a few welfare cheats, using his Blarney-it’s an Irish thing- to keep you from critically looking at the tax code, which he gutted for the sake of Republican fat cats at the expense of America’s Middle and Working Poor. If REPUBLICANS IN CONGRESS and our statehouses hadn’t decimated Federal and State college student aid programs, our desperate college students would be saddled with such high student debt. While of course, Israel has a right to defend itself, do they also have a right to commit genocide against MANY THOUSANDS of Palestinian civilians?
