“We will need to close our 31st St. library again, so that our boiler system can be completely deconstructed, removed, and replaced, and our elevator cab can be deconstructed and replaced,” Interim Library Director Melody Scagnelli-Townley said in a statement.

“Unfortunately, these projects will take a long time and will be quite disruptive to our services. The 31st St. library will close again to the public on Monday, June 5, with Saturday, June 3 being its last day open to the public until the autumn. Once the 31st St. location closes for the summer, the temporary Story Court branch will be open the typical Monday to Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. hours, except holidays.”

The renovations to the boiler system and the elevator are parts of a multi-phased series of library construction that began in February.

The renovations to the boiler system and the elevator are parts of a multi-phased series of library construction that began in February.

At that time, the library announced that the renovations were expected to take 10 months to complete, therefore, the work is expected to continue into the fall. The Story Court Branch is located at 16 West 4th Street and Story Court.

“We will still offer many of the same services at Story Court that we offered at 31st St. including computer use, printing, and copying. Many of our books, including all of our newest 2022 and 2023 releases, will be available,” continued Scagnelli-Townley.

“More details will follow. We appreciate your patience during this renovation period and we can’t wait for you to see our newly refreshed space in the fall!”
