At approximately 8:47 a.m., the Bayonne Fire Department was dispatched to a report of fire at 82 West 17th Street. Arriving companies found smoke coming from the three-story multiple family dwelling, Weaver said in a statement.

Firefighters found fire in a first floor apartment kitchen. All occupants were safely evacuated, with one resident suffering from a minor cut. He was treated by McCabe EMS at the scene and the fire was declared under control at about 9:05 a.m.

All occupants were allowed to return home and a fire investigation is underway, however, the fire does not seem suspicious at this time.

“Our firefighters arrived within minutes of being dispatched and took quick and decisive action to extinguish this blaze and limit the damage to the area of origin,” Weaver added.

“Their efforts are the reason these families are all able to return home, which should make for a merrier Christmas.”
