Bayonne 3rd Ward Councilman Gary La Pelusa has received the endorsement of former Mayor Richard Rutkowski, who has also backed Jason O’Donnell for mayor.Â

“Gary sticks up for his constituents and isn’t afraid to go against the grain. While other politicians speak a lot of empty words, Gary lets his actions and voting record speak for him,” Rutkowski said in a statement.
“He has taken a tough stance on long-term, residential tax abatements. Gary is constantly advocating for the 3rd Ward and runs several free festivals and holiday themes throughout each year.”
La Pelusa is in the most competitive council race of this election cycle, as he is up against Matt Klimansky, running on Team O’Donnell, and Mark Urban – whose running as an independent.
None of the other four council seats have more than two candidates running.
“I am beyond grateful to always have Mayor Rutkowski’s support, especially during this election season,” La Pelusa added.
“The Mayor has been a great friend, mentor, and supporter of mine since my inception in to politics, and I thank him for his endorsement. It is because of this show of support that I feel confident and energetic as May 8th approaches!”
