“This year, our 1st Ward Election has taken an ugly turn, and this is something I strongly dislike and is part of the reason why I’m reaching out. There’s a reason why people don’t come out to vote, and it’s because they believe nothing will change. But the change our community needs starts with your vote,” she wrote in a letter to 1st Ward residents.

“I’m proud to endorse Paul Presinzano to be our First Ward Councilmember. While many promises have been made and stones thrown, I believe residents can see with their own eyes what’s going on. Lying to win an election only hurts Hoboken. Our quality of life and safety are of the utmost importance, and maintaining Hoboken’s affordability and government services should be an open-door policy for us.”

Chaparro, who lives in the 1st Ward and also works at City Hall, is finishing her fourth term as a state legislator, which comes to a conclusion at the end of the year. She was tapped to run for office by former Mayor Dawn Zimmer.

She had been a running mate of state Senator Brian Stack, but with redistricting, Hoboken’s state Senator will be her other old running mate, Assemblyman Raj Mukherji.

Replacing her as the new 32nd Legislative District’s state Assembly representative from Hoboken will be John Allen, a close political ally of Mayor Ravi Bhalla.

“The truth is, all this should be and can be done now! Changing the narrative to benefit Paul Presinzano’s opponent won’t make you unsee anything. But choosing someone who has been firmly speaking up and challenging things that don’t work for our ward or city is essential. It didn’t just start with this election,” Chaparro added.

“We need to take those day-to-day frustrations we share when we run into neighbors on the street or read about on social media and send an independent fighter to represent us for a better quality of life.”

Presinzano also has the backing of Council members Tiffanie Fisher, Ruben Ramos, and Jen Giattino as he looks to defeat Rafi Cordova, who has the endorsement of Mayor Ravi Bhalla and his team, in the non-partisan December 5th contest.

  1. I literally see no policy substance in this “endorsement.” I assume, because she has publicly said so, that Annette is upset that she is no longer going to be a Member of the Assembly. With that context, the non-existent substance of this poorly drafted “endorsement” is petty, and sounds exactly like what she is complaining about.

Not sure how long Chapparo served but feels like she was an empty suit and a good reason for term limits.

Not sure what to make Rafi but at least he is running on a clear concrete issue
    — tenant’s rights —- not just an anti-Bhalla platform. Always good to know what a candidate supports not just what they are against.

    • The vast majority of Hoboken residents have been very positive about the Assembly Woman Chaparo praised her accomplishments.

No one knows what to make of Rafi other than he is and will be a rubber vote for everything Mayor Bhalla wants.

A First Ward Councilman who is independent enough to advocate and represent it’s people first last and always. Paul Presinzano would be that guy.

    • You are not a BnR so your screen name is racist cultural appropriation. Your insulting attack on Ms. Chapparo, an Hispanic woman, is racist and misogynist. Progressives – this is who Rafi and his racist, misogynist backers in Bhalla’s back room really are.

    • Rafi is a single issue candidate and barely knows the single issue he touts. Paul has a clear understanding of the major issues that effect the quality of life of 1st Ward residents and his platform is pretty clear. Rafi just throws stuff at the wall and tries to see what sticks. Annette has been a great friend and representative for Hoboken. I am sure she is pissed about being pushed out for Ravi’s henchman John Allen. Anyone would be. But i though her endorsement spoke volumes about what the issues are with Ravi as Hoboken’s mayor. Kudos to the assemblywoman for speaking up.

  2. Oh boy, this is a really pathetic action by a scorned woman. Word on the street that she told her ex-boyfriend who DUMPED HER 5 YEARS AGO that if he endorsed Rafi, she would endorse Paul. We are all laughing at her over here in MVP.

Sad sad angry scorned woman trying to get back at everyone. I guess they knew that she was this kind of woman and that’s why they kicked her to the curb.

I feel bad for her but not that bad. Youd think after 5 YEARS she would be able to move on. But since she can’t we can see how she is too immature to represent anyone

    • Sad sexist comments from the Bhalla house of spin.
As we haves seen many times in the past the depths they will go to attack anyone who does tow the Bhalla line.

Yet another reason to vote for Paul.

    • The level of nastiness reflected in this post is shocking even to someone like me who is well familiar with how nasty Hoboken politics sometimes has been.

I’m also shocked by the level of stupidity. The reflected nastiness will hurt Rafi Cordova, the candidate the moron who posted this presumably was trying to help.

Closely contested elections are in many ways a test of character and voters pay attention to how campaigns are conducted. Whoever posted this is not helping Mr. Cordova to pass that test.

      • If you are the arbitor of nastiness, I’m surprised that you didn’t pop in for this one:

“Hearsay Smear by Cheryl Fallick November 29, 2023 6:00 pm at 6:00 pm
She divulged private tenant info on a video
        She’s a pos
No wonder nobody likes her and she’s living in squalid conditions”

POS, really? squalid conditions? Public docs, are private now?

And for sure you’ll comment on this:

        “Cheryl Fallick = Vanessa Falco 2.0 November 30, 2023 7:51 am at 7:51 am
Isn’t it sad that Cheryl Fallick ( who also has a real estate license ) and possibly profits from market rate rentals and developers project will act at any cost ?
Every candidate that Fallick wrote endorsements for -except Rafi – are supporting Paul
        Bhalla hates Cheryl
        But he also hated Falco

Vanessa switched sides and now makes 85,000 a year with no track record or a single new affordable apartment built since Bhalla was elected”

I was looking for where you typed your defense of Vanessa and Chery and couldn’t find it. Are you ok with the Presi team attacking woman? It sure looks like it.

A few of us in the 1st ward were just talking about all the Presi team nastiness from the Presi supporters. We think it’s at a tipping point conducted by Presi himself. We can’t wait to vote for Rafi.

        • Sorry Cheryl it’s not the same thing
The attack on Annette was clearly about her being a woman, and stereotyping her that she was scorned
The comments about you and Vanessa were about your job performances, and your roles in politics and government, and doesn’t make any reference to your gender, so no it’s not the same

Are you really still that self-absorbed after all these years?

    • How low will the Ravibots go? Well, this time they haven’t tossed a terror flier grenade at Paul although the their terror flier crew is throwing loot at Rafi.

  3. Hi not Vijay. Whataboutism isn’t a particularly compelling defense for the nastiness. It certainly won’t offset the damage done to Mr. Cordova by the stupidity.

Remember when, about a week after you were hired by Dawn, you demanded that we move on from Rob Horowitz and hire someone you recommended from the “major leagues” because Rob didn’t do “major league” nasty negative campaign work for us?

We ignored you and never told Rob. Seems like your new team is more receptive to your belief that “major league” campaigns are the ones that do nasty the best.

  4. I get the feeling VJ does nasty for whoever is paying him at the moment. At this moment it is Bhalla, when he is not technically working for the taxpayers of Hoboken.

  5. at least she is still an elected offical giving an endorsement as opposed to an appointed city offical who should be more concerned about the job he was hired to do rather than playing politics but what else would you expect

  6. Yes nasty beyond the pale. And we need to look at issues before tomorrows vote such as what’s going on at Hudson Square North with rents out of control and where is the Applied Rally? Where are dEFUSCO AND rafi on this which is much greater than Marine View and is poised displace may more people including elderly and disabled and people who are valuable to our community? Why can’t they stand up to them on this? And why is Labenz silent too, she talks to Rafi often and has talked to the Applied tenatns online and is aware and yet we don’t hear a thing? Not sure if Hudson Sq N is in 1st or 6th but I believe 1st, eitehr way it affects both wards and yet nothing from Rafi or anyone in the administration, why Jenny?
