“Ward D needs a leader that has a proven track record of service to our community. Today, we have some of the highest rent increases and home prices in the country,” Ambrossi, 30, said in a statement.
“I know that with common sense development and tenant protections, we can preserve opportunities for the next generation of Jersey City residents. When you look around; we have young people, seniors, homeowners, and renters of all different ethnicities. This is Ward D!”
He formally declared at La Milpa Taqueria on Saturday, where Ambrossi’s campaign estimated about 65 supporters were in attendance.
Ambrossi lost handily to Yousef Saleh, roughly 58-16, in a November 2020 special election to fill the term of late Ward D Councilman Michael Yun, who died due to complications from COVID-19.
Saleh won again in the regular 2021 ward race and has declared he will seek re-election in 2025, though he currently does not have a ticket.
Additionally, Democratic Socialists of America member and union organizer Jake Ephros announced his candidacy in June.
Hudson County Commissioner Bill O’Dea, a declared mayoral candidate, has signaled he will run Elvin Dominici for the Heights council seat, while former Gov. Jim McGreevey is expected to run Police Lt. Dave Calton.
Dominici is expected to formally declare on September 7th, while Calton has not said anything publicly about his 2025 plans yet.
Council President Joyce Watterman and former Board of Education President Mussab Ali have not given any indication who they will run in Ward D yet, with Ward E Councilman James Solomon, who is expected to enter the race in September, also in the mix to give Saleh a potential political home.

What we need in ward D is a councilman that will mingle with the people n talk n listen to them about there problems in the heights n most of all walk the heights n look for your self on what needs to be done n that man is Patrick ambrosia he lives among us n he feels the squeeze that we are all going threw
