“UPDATE: An adult male is now in custody, in connection with the reports of shots fired at 4th & Jackson,” the Hoboken PD posted on X minutes ago.

“Since its still an active investigation, we ask residents to continue to avoid the area. Reminder: extra officers may be at nearby schools for dismissal as a precaution.”

In prior posted, the department said that no one had been injured during the incident, there was no threat to the public, and that officers would be stationed outside schools out of an abundance of caution.

“While this was NOT a school related event, out of an abundance of caution, @HobokenPD
will have extra officers on hand during dismissal at some schools in the area of the ongoing investigation. More information will be released if/when it becomes available,” they wrote.

Hoboken Councilwoman-at-Large Emily Jabbour posted on Instagram that “all schools in the city are in lockdown or shelter in place as a precautionary measure” in addition to the info the city’s police department shared.

Public safety spokeswoman Marci Rubin said they did not have any comment at this time beyond what the department posted on X.
