Yesterday at approximately 12:41 p.m., members of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to the area of Bergenline Avenue and 70th Street, after receiving a report of a fight, Ramadanovic said in a statement.
Upon their arrival, officers observed the victim, who had sustained injuries to his head and face. At that time, officers also observed a male begin to walk away from the scene.
Witnesses who observed the incident pointed out that the male walking away was the suspect who assaulted the victim. Officers ordered the male to stop, at which point he began to flee on foot.
Following a brief foot pursuit, Jazzy Vasquez, 26, of North Bergen, was apprehended.
During the course of their on-scene investigation, officers retrieved relevant video surveillance showing Vasquez repeatedly punched the until he fell to the ground.
Vasquez briefly walked away then returned to stomp on the victim’s head.
As the result of this investigation, Vasquez was charged with aggravated assault, endangering an injured victim, obstructing the administration of law, and disorderly conduct.
Following the completion of his arrest processing, Vasquez was issued his complaint warrant and lodged in the Hudson County Correctional Center, awaiting his first court appearance at the Hudson County Superior Court.
The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
