Earlier today, members of the U.S. Marshals Service of New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with the fatal shooting of Jovahn Horne, Suarez said in a statement.

Roger Pickett Jr., of Newark, is charged with murder, murder during the commission of a robbery, inflicting bodily injury while committing a robbery, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

He was arrested at his residence on Evergreen Avenue in Newark and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.

On Tuesday, November 1st, at approximately 9:05 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of shots fired on Dales Avenue.

Upon arrival, responding officers located a male victim – later identified as Jovahn Horne, 23, of Tenafly – in the area of 74 Dales Ave. with an apparent gunshot wound to the abdomen.

He was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 9:41 p.m.

Suarez credited the HCPO’s Homicide Unit, the Jersey City Police Department, and the United States Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force with the arrest and investigation.
