A 28-year-old male victim told police that he arranged for the $300 purchase of an iPhone, via Facebook, after an unknown male residing on 18th Street had listed the item for sale, according to Police Lt. Eric Amato.

The victim responded to a location near the intersection of 18th Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard to complete the purchase and was met by the person he interacted with on Facebook, who was accompanied by another unknown male, authorities said.

The two actors entered the victim’s car to complete the purchase, with the man who placed the iPhone up for sale seated in the front passenger seat and his friend seated in the rear passenger compartment, officials said.

During the transaction, the victim handed $300 cash to the man he was acquainted with and, in turn, the second man handed him the phone, authorities.

At that time, the second man made mention that he had a gun in his possession as he reached to the area of his lower back, police said.

While doing so, the first man grabbed the phone from the victim’s hand and both actors exited the car and fled with the phone and the victim’s $300, officials said.

The victim states that the second male never brandished the gun and that the victim never physically saw any weapon, authorities said.

This incident is under active investigation and no arrests have been made.
