A five-alarm blaze in West New York is impacting multiple businesses on 61st Street and Bergenline Avenue this morning, with authorities investigating the possibility of arson.

The fire began at approximately 4:30 a.m. at 6117 Bergenline Ave., a commercial area that includes a nail salon, ice cream shop, barbecue restaurant, and electronics repair store.

Video from the scene shows the nail salon engulfed in heavy flames and spreading to the adjoining buildings. News 12 reported from the scene around 7:30 a.m. and indicated that there were no injuries at the time.

NJ Transit has announced that Bus Routes 22, 84, 156 and 159 are on a detour while Bergenline Avenue is closed.

Additionally, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office tweeted that their arson unit arrived at the scene about a half hour ago.

“The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force is responding to a multi-alarm fire in West New York. Please avoid the area of Bergenline Avenue and 61st Street.”

Officials said this afternoon that the fire was deemed under control at about 12:30 p.m. and that uninhabitable buildings would be demolished today, estimating that about 25 people had been displaced – a relatively low number since the fire occurred in a commercial area.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
