“Prosecutor Suarez is now confirming that a fifth child, Shamira Lopez, age 4, has died from her injuries due to the Union City fire that occurred on 25th Street in Union City last Friday morning,” they wrote on their official Twitter page this morning.

Yesterday, Suarez announced that a fourth child had died from the blaze and that a fifth child, now identified as Lopez, was at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Additionally, one adult woman and one adult male are in stable condition as of Monday.

The five children who perished in the fire are as follows:

Mayli Wood, age 5

Jason Gonzalez, age 2

Christian Josue Mendez, age 7

Jose Felipe Tejada, age 13

Shamira Lopez, age 4

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the NJ State Fire Marshals Office are aiding the prosecutor’s office and the Union City Police Department with the ongoing investigation.

Officials have only determined that the blaze began on the first floor of 416 25th St., a three-story residence.

Union City officials started a GoFundMe page that initially sought to raise $10,000 for the families of the fire victims, then upped the goal to $15,000, then $25,000, and has now catapulted to $35,000.
