Members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) arrested Gustavo Monteiro, 27, after investigators determined that Monteiro fled New Jersey and was possibly hiding in the greater Cleveland area.

He was arrested outside a local gas station and caught with a loaded handgun with an extended magazine, police said.

He will be held in the Cuyahoga County Jail until he can be extradited back to New Jersey.

“Violent criminals are not welcome in northern Ohio. We will do everything in our power to continue to keep our streets safe and arrest dangerous fugitives like this,” U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said in a statement.

The November 2nd incident took place in the Costco parking lot and received more media attention that usual since Mayor Jimmy Davis, a retired police captain, helped capture two suspects: Pedro Henrique, 19, of Newark, as well as a 17-year-old juvenile from Newark.

At the time, Bayonne police said as the victim, 60, reached into the suspect’s vehicle in another attempt to regain possession of her purse, the vehicle began to drive away, dragging the victim several feet across the pavement until she was pushed off.

The vehicle then fled the scene with the victim’s purse in the actors’ possession. As a result of being dragged, the victim suffered head and facial injuries as well as lacerations and abrasions to her arms.
