Three men were sentenced to state prison, two for over 40 years, for a 2018 fatal Jersey City shooting that claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy.

Rayquan Carmichael, 23, of Jersey City, was sentenced to 40 years in New Jersey State Prison for murder, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.
The sentence will run consecutively to a seven year sentence on an unrelated unlawful possession of a qeapon charge and a four year sentence to an unrelated burglary charge, for a total of 51 years in New Jersey State Prison.
Furthermore, Isaiah Huggins, 24, of Jersey City, was sentenced to 42 years in New Jersey State Prison for murder. A jury found Carmichael and Huggins guilty of murder and other offenses on March 13th.
Finally, Jahmari Hector, 21, of Jersey City, was sentenced to six years in New Jersey State Prison and is parole ineligible until 85 percent of his time is served. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit aggravated assault on May 20th.
At the time the crime was committed, Hector was a juvenile and therefore his name was not released.

On Tuesday, September 18th, 2018, at approximately 6:25 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of shots fired in the area of Old Bergen Road and Pamrapo Avenue.
Upon arrival, Jersey City police officers located an unresponsive male – later identified as Jayden Fondeur, 17, of Jersey City – with and apparent gunshot wound to his upper body. He was pronounced dead at approximately 6:55 p.m.
The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be a gunshot wound of the neck and the manner of death to be homicide.
