Taking the top spot on the ballot will be first time candidate Shweta Gursahani, with perennial candidate Patricia Waiters taking the second ballot placement and Trustee Alex De La Torre occupying the third ballot spot, according to the Hudson County Clerk’s Office.

Joyce Simmons, another newcomer to the school board race, will be in the fourth ballot position, with Trustee Sheillah Dallara sitting in the fifth ballot spot and Trustee Jeniffer Evans rounding out the ballot in the sixth spot.

Evans was the top vote getter in 2016 when she ran with the “Forward Together Ticket,” which also featured Dallara and Irene Sobolov, a slate that was backed by-then Mayor Dawn Zimmer.

The victory marked a moment of redemption for Dallara, who won at the polls in 2015 but ended up coming up short after an unusually high number of vote-by-mail ballots were tallied.

It is unclear why Dallara and Evans decided not to run together this time around or why neither put a ticket together.

The county clerk’s office did the ballot drawing on Monday, though candidates will have until August 27th to drop out before the ballots are finalized on August 28th.
