Two senior citizens were injured yesterday morning after a Guttenberg Community Affairs van crashed into a residential building, Mayor Wayne Zitt said.

One senior broke her collarbone and another broke her leg, while the driver was in the hospital for a few hours for evaluation after crashing into a building at 81 68th St. at approximately 11 a.m. Sunday, Zitt said over the phone the morning.

While he said the accident appeared to be human error, with the driver – who he said is in his late 50s or early 60s – inadvertently hit the gas instead of the brakes.

Zitt added that he has been working for the town for about two years and has not received any tickets or summonses at this time.
