“1199J is proud to endorse Dr. Michael Russo to be the next Mayor of Hoboken. He has displayed a career’s worth of advocacy for union men and women, proactively helping his constituents, and seeing our healthcare system from the inside as a physical therapist,” 1199J President Craig Ford said in a statement.

“This combination will make Michael a great Mayor, and our membership will ensure his victory this fall.”

The Newark-based union is a part of AFSCME and AFL-CIO, representing thousands of healthcare and correctional workers.

“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of 1199J, one of New Jersey’s most vital labor organizations which represents thousands of healthcare and correctional workers,” Russo added.

“They’re a necessary voice at the table as we plan Hoboken’s path forward, namely with regards to the revitalization of our hospital. My vision for a new hospital would be union-built and union-staffed, and I’ll be grateful to have partners in labor by my side as we begin those discussions.”

With Mayor Ravi Bhalla all but guaranteed to be an assemblyman in the 32nd Legislative District as the democratic nominee, six people are running to succeed him.

Joining Russo in the non-partisan November 4th race are 2nd Ward Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher, 4th Ward Councilman Ruben Ramos, Councilwoman-at-Large Emily Jabbour, former U.S. Treasury official Dini Ajmani, and perennial candidate Pat Waiters.
