A West New York man received a 45-year sentence in New York State Prison for beating his mother to death inside her home back in January 2021.

Hudson County Superior Court Judge Angelo Servidio sentenced Emmanuel Gonzalez, 38, of West New York, to 45 years in New Jersey State Prison yesterday.
A jury had previously found Gonzalez guilty of murder following a trial in January 2025 and the sentence is subject to the No Early Release Act.
On Thursday January 14th, 2021, at approximately 1:30 p.m., members of the West New York Police Department responded to 439 66th St. on a report of an unresponsive woman.
Upon arrival, officers were met by Gonzalez, who is the son of the victim. Officers were directed to a bedroom where the woman, later identified as Irma Gonzalez, 62, of West New York, was found unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma and manner to be homicide.
The State was represented by Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Nicole Ghezzar.
