“On Wednesday, February 8 around 8:30 AM a devastating fire took place on Bergenline Avenue between 10th and 11th Streets in Union City,” the city wrote on their website.

“In this disastrous fire, numerous families, most of them with children attending our schools, lost their apartments and all their belongings. These families are facing plenty of difficulties and are underprivileged. They are struggling for the basic necessities of life.”

The GoFundMe page, created this afternoon, has set a goal of $2,000 and has raised $766 as of this writing.

The blaze raged on for hours and ended up displacing at least 60 people from 17 different families, with businesses being damaged as well. The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force is investigating the incident.
