Union City man charged with murder for triple shooting in Jersey City Heights

A Union City man has been charged with murder for a triple shooting in the Jersey City Heights that occurred back in April, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Freddie Castro, 21, of Union City, is charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, and two counts of aggravated assault, Suarez said in a statement.

He was arrested in Kissimmee, Florida, by members of the United States Marshals Service Florida/Caribbean Division in coordination with the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force yesterday.

He will be detained at the Osceola County Corrections Department pending extradition to New Jersey.

At approximately 9 p.m. on Sunday, April 7th, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of shots fired in the area of Central Avenue and Bowers Street.

Upon arrival, officers located two victims with apparent gunshot wounds and both were transported to Jersey City Medical Center. Freddie Posey, 25, of Jersey City, was pronounced dead shortly after 9:30 p.m.

A 30-year-old Jersey City female was treated for a non-life threatening injury. A third victim, a 24-year-old Jersey City male, self-transported to University Hospital in Newark with a non-life threatening injury.

Two additional defendants were previously arrested in connection with this matter.

Darren Esteves, 20, of Jersey City is charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, and two counts of aggravated assault.

He was arrested in Orlando, Florida, on Sunday, June 23rd, by members of the Orlando Police Department and is being detained at the Orange County Corrections Department pending extradition to New Jersey.

Additionally, Aaliyah Rivera, 23, of Jersey City, is charged with murder as an accomplice and conspiracy to commit murder.

She was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office by members of the Homicide Unit on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, and is being detained at the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
