“Agnes Acerra, 89 of Hoboken, was crossing Washington Street at the 5th Street intersection on Friday morning when a 2015 white Ford van, driven by Marc Anthony Viray of Jersey City, made a left turn off 5th Street and struck Mrs. Acerra,” Schillari said in a statement.

“She was conscious and alert initially when transported by emergency personnel, but her condition deteriorated rapidly at the hospital and she died Friday night.”

He also corroborated what Hoboken Police Chief Kenneth Ferrante told Hudson County View yesterday, which is that the scene was reconstructed by The Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit and The Hoboken Police Traffic Bureau on Saturday morning.

Schillari added that the crash investigators are trying to determine if Acerra was definitely in the crosswalk at the time of the incident and if the driver’s view was obstructed by a blind spot.

Viray was initially issued a summons for failing to yield to a pedestrian.
