“It’s with great sadness to inform everyone on the passing of Ronald Scheurle. Ron truly loved and cared about people. He served our community in many ways. As a funeral director servicing all of Hudson and Bergen County; as a coach in children sports ; supporting the veterans through the Knights of Columbus; teachers and students,” West New York GOP Committeeman Frank Miqueli wrote on Facebook.

“His passion as a local Republican politician is what drove him to keep the best interest for the people and stand up for what he believed was right. Ron cared about the people in our community and that why we got along so well. I’m going to miss him, and this will be a big loss to the community. His legacy will never be forgotten, let’s please say a prayer in honor of him. We love you Ronald C Scheurle.”

Scheurle was the top vote getter in the 2016 West New York BOE race, spoiling a sweep for a ticket backed by then-Mayor Felix Roque – someone who the lifelong resident was frequently at odds with.

His 2019 bid for re-election as part of the “Save Our Schools” slate was unsuccessful.

As for his family’s funeral home, located at 6119 Tyler Place, the local business has been around since 1928 when it was founded by Charles A. Scheurle.

His two sons, Charles and Edwards, joined the business in 1951, according to a Hudson Dispatch article posted on the funeral home’s website. Ron is the son of Charles Scheurle.
