U.S. Reps. Rob Menendez (D-8) and Frank Pallone (D-6) led the effort to declare September 23rd “Bruce Springsteen Day”to recognize the New Jersey icon’s birthday.

“Through his storytelling and musical talent, Bruce Springsteen truly captures the experience of everyday Americans and those fighting to achieve the American Dream,” Menendez said in a statement.
“With his breakout album, ‘Born to Run’ turning 50 this year, I’m excited to honor a New Jersey native whose music uplifts people nationwide and reminds us to always chase our dreams.”
The resolution honors Springsteen’s contributions to music, New Jersey, and beyond through his representation of Americans’ hopes and dreams, as well as their struggles.
“September 23 is more than Bruce Springsteen’s birthday; it’s a chance to honor how much he’s given to New Jersey and to fans everywhere. This resolution recognizes his unmatched contributions to music, storytelling, and community, and it celebrates a life’s work rooted in the Jersey Shore that continues to inspire people across the country,” added Pallone.
“I recently filed a separate resolution marking the 50th anniversary of the legendary album Born to Run, but today’s measure is about celebrating the man himself, and all he’s meant to generations who see their own hopes and struggles uplifted in his songs.”
The resolution aims to highlight Springsteen’s extraordinary leadership of the E Street Band and his musical talent.
He has received over 20 Grammy Awards and was a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his philanthropic efforts and success in the arts in March 2023 from President Joe Biden (D).
Springsteen, a Long Branch native, turned 76 years old today.
