Hoboken 4th Ward Councilman Ruben Ramos is enthusiastic about the fact that Southwest Fest is returning next month after it initially appeared it may not happen this year.

“YOU DID IT!!!!! WE ARE BACK!!!! By popular demand, the 2nd Annual SW Fest will return on June 23rd from noon-5pm so mark your calendars!  Thanks to all of our neighbors, community engagement, and outright grassroots support we are able to have this incredibly successful community event for the second year,” he wrote in an email blast late this afternnon.

“If you recall, the City of Hoboken had stated that the SW Fest could not happen until the Fall due to some highly questionable excuses on their part. But the swell of support and our community coming together made it happen. This is the Hoboken I know and love and what further pushes me to make Hoboken a better place for you.”

He continued that the event will take place on Jackson Street between 2nd and 4th Streets, featuring bouncy houses, a dunk tank, food vendors, face painting, live music and a DJ – all free of charge.

The main sponsors are the Hoboken Housing Authority Hoboken Business Alliance, and What Hoboken Sounds Like, with a moonlight mixer for the event being held at Schmitty’s, located at 359 1st St., tomorrow May 29th, at 7 p.m.

  1. Would like to hear why the city tried to get away with saying they couldn’t do it just because they hired someone new. The mayor again picked a nepo hire instead of looking for the best person. There are lots of good people in Hoboken that should have had the chance at the job. What a terrible excuse. Truth is, Bhalla wants to spend all his time campaigning and the staff follows his lead. They especially dont’ want to work in summer. The city isn’t a school, you have to work summers if you want us to pay you full time. He keeps putting out releases that our local news publishes so they’re too busy to ask him questions, like, where is our recreation program? So far only 3 sports have been released this summer. So far none of the non athletic summer programs for older kids have been announced except Art in the Park. Where is the rest? It’s almost June.
