A 73-year-old Union City Department of Public Works employee was killed by a 16-year-old after being struck by his vehicle, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

At approximately 7:36 a.m. on Monday, the Union City Police Department was notified of a pedestrian struck in the area of Palisade Avenue and 36th Street, Suarez said in a statement.
Responding officers located a male victim, later identified as Fortunato Rojas-Solis, 73, of Union City, with life-threatening injuries. He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center and was pronounced dead at approximately 5:15 p.m.
A preliminary investigation determined Rojas-Solis was struck by a Dodge Durango operated by a 16-year-old Union City male teenager. Rojas-Solis was working in his capacity as a Union City DPW employee at the time of the collision.
The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Union City Police Department are actively investigating this case.

A man is dead and a Child has to live with killing someone for the rest of his life (Not to mention potential incarceration depending on the circumstances” and your first thought is “Lets make a political comment”. People over the age of 65 don’t just stop existing and many want to continue working doing what ever job is available. If he’s working at age 73 its either he wants to work or has to work.
