A 20-year-old woman from Queen, New York was stabbed to death in Union City early this morning and her alleged killer has been arrested, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

This morning at approximately 5:25 a.m., the Union City Police Department received a
report of a person stabbed at 3612 New York Ave. Upon arrival, responding officers encountered a male with a knife inside the building, Suarez said in a statement.
The officers were able to secure the knife and detain the man. The man, Kevin Cortes, 26, of Union City, was subsequently transported to Palisades Medical Center for evaluation, authorities said.
Police then located a female victim on the third floor of the residence with multiple wounds to her upper body. The victim has been identified as Giselle Bravo, 20, of Queens,
New York, officials said.
Bravo was administered lifesaving aid at the scene and was then transported by Emergency
Medical Services to the Jersey City Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at
approximately 6:40 a.m., police said.
The cause and manner of death are pending an investigation by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
Cortes has been charged by with murder, possession of a weapon (knife) for an
unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon, authorities said.
Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Union
City Police Department for assisting in the investigation.
The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit continues to actively investigate the case with assistance from the Union City Police Department.
