A Union City man was arrested last week for allegedly sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl back in December, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

On June 13th at approximately 5:50 p.m., the Union City Police Department contacted the
Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit to report an alleged sexual assault of an 11-year-old female from Garfield, Suarez said in a statement.
The sexual assault was reported to Union City police by the mother of the 11-year-old and was alleged to have occurred in December 2018 in Union City.
On June 14th, after an investigation by the Special Victims Unit, members of the SVU
arrested Jorge Delgado, 43, of Union City.
He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office without incident.
Delgado, who was watching the child at the time of the alleged sexual assault, has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of
a child, authorities said.
The Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion for pretrial detention of Delgado. He is scheduled to make a court appearance tomorrow at at 9:00 a.m.
Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit for the
investigation and arrest with assistance from the Union City Police Department.
