Prosecutor: Pedestrian, 76, in critical condition after Kearny hit-and-run

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Kearny Police Department are investigating a 76-year-old pedestrian is in critical condition after an early morning Kearny hit-and-run yesterday, Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Shortly after 7 a.m. on Thursday, May 30th, the Kearny Police Department was notified of a pedestrian struck at the intersection of Kearny Avenue and Columbia Avenue, Suarez said in a statement.

Responding officers located a man, later identified as a 76-year-old Kearny resident, with serious injuries. The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene.

The victim was transported by Emergency Medical Services to University Hospital in Newark, where he remains in critical condition.

During the preliminary investigation, the vehicle suspected of being involved in the collision was recovered. The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Kearny PD are actively investigating this matter.

  1. How can someone hit a elderly person with a car or even if they are young and just take off that is sick they deserve everything they got coming to them hopefully they catch the person.
