Jose Abreuramos, 30, was charged with eluding early yesterday morning, according to Police Capt. Eric Amato.

Abreuramos was taken into custody at approximately 4:21 a.m. on Saturday from the area of Eastern Parkway in Jersey City after leading Bayonne police officers on a high speed pursuit from Route 440 North and New Hook Road.

Abreuramos was racing other vehicles on Route 440 and when the officers attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop, he failed to comply and initiated a pursuit onto Route 185 into Jersey City.

During the pursuit, Abreuramos’ vehicle came dangerously close to other motorists as he disregarded numerous traffic signals and reached speeds upwards of 85 miles per hour.

After crashing his vehicle into a fence on Route 185, his vehicle became inoperable and stopped in the area of Eastern Parkway where Abreuramos was taken into custody, authorities said.
